North of the Coliseum and the Fairgrounds, on the hillside under a motte of ancient live oaks, a granite slab marks the grave of Col. Juan Seguin.

Through the efforts of the Bicentennial Committee, led by John Taylor, Mayor Al Koebig, and others, working with the Texas and Mexican governments, Seguin's remains were removed from Nuevo Laredo.

In a moving ceremony on July 4, 1976, Juan N. Seguin was buried in this city that so proudly bears his name.
